The camp is located off Highway 108, 30 miles east of Sonora. It is situated one-half mile from picturesque Pinecrest Lake, where campers can enjoy swimming, boating, fishing and hiking. Camp is just three short miles from the Dodge Ridge ski slopes.
Many youth and church groups find the camp ideal for teenage program planning combined with snow camp for recreation. The winter snow depths range up to five feet, ideal for cross-country skiing.
Camp Sylvester offers a unique camping retreat for groups as large as 220 during all seasons, and as small as 8 every day of the year. A total of 26 buildings are situated on the camp grounds, i
ncluding a dining hall, with a 200 seat capacity, a large recreation hall, 16 sleeping cabins, Gibson Hall, bathroom facilities with winterized showers, cooks quarters equipped with commercial kitchens, a nurses cabin and a specially equipped cabin designed to meet the needs of handicapped individuals.
Camp Sylvester provides services, accommodations and privileges regardless of
race, color, creed, sex, religion, handicap, age or national origin and is operated under special use permit within the Stanislaus National Forest.
